Understanding the Differences Between Our UV Adhesives

We are thrilled to announce that we've recently expanded our line of UV adhesives, now offering four unique UV glue options to cater to all your eyelash extension needs. However, this expansion has led to a common question:

"What are the differences between your UV adhesives?"

Great question! In this blog post, we'll break down the key differences to help you choose the perfect adhesive for your lashing style.

Key Differences Among Our UV Adhesives

The main factors that set our UV adhesives apart are:

  • Cure Time
  • Color
  • Viscosity

Your choice may depend on how you lash, your preference for glue thickness, or whether you like using a colored adhesive. Some lash artists find they achieve better retention with specific glues, and interestingly, some clients may experience different retention rates depending on the glue used.

Note: All our glues offer the same excellent retention and shelf life.

Understanding Cure Time, Dry Time, and Viscosity

Before we dive into each adhesive, it's essential to understand the difference between cure time, dry time, and viscosity—key factors that influence your lashing experience.

Traditional Adhesives: Dry Time

In traditional eyelash adhesives, you often see dry time specified. This refers to the time it takes for the adhesive to dry and form a bond, which is highly dependent on environmental factors like humidity and temperature. Higher humidity can speed up the drying process, while lower humidity can slow it down, affecting your application technique.

UV Adhesives: Cure Time and Viscosity

With UV adhesives, we refer to cure time instead. Cure time is the time it takes for the adhesive to harden under UV light, making it less dependent on humidity and temperature for curing. However, environmental factors can still influence the viscosity of the adhesive, which affects how quickly it may dry or set before you cure it with UV light.

Why Viscosity Matters

Even though UV adhesives cure under UV light, the viscosity plays a crucial role in your application process. If the adhesive dries or sets too quickly before you can position the lash extension, it won't adhere properly, leading to attachment issues and a weaker bond.

  • Slower Cure Time Adhesives: Using an adhesive with a slower cure time and appropriate viscosity, like Halo Bond (2-second cure time), gives you more working time after dipping to position the lash correctly before curing it under UV light.
  • Faster Cure Time Adhesives: Faster-curing adhesives, like Halo Bolt (0.5-second cure time), are ideal for experienced lash artists who work quickly. However, if the adhesive's viscosity is affected by environmental conditions, it may dry before you can secure the lash, potentially compromising the bond.

Tip: Selecting an adhesive with the right viscosity and cure time for your working conditions and speed can significantly impact the quality of your work and client satisfaction.

Meet Our UV Adhesives

1. Halo Bond

This was our first UV adhesive and remains a favorite for many. Here's what you need to know:

  • Cure Time: 2 seconds
  • Viscosity: Thinnest in our lineup
  • Ideal For: Lash artists new to UV lashing

Its slower cure time and thinner viscosity make Halo Bond perfect for those just starting with UV adhesives. The additional seconds allow you to place the lash precisely before curing, reducing the risk of attachment issues. While some have transitioned to our other glues, many continue to love Halo Bond for its reliability and ease of use.

2. Halo Bolt

Our fastest-curing UV glue, Halo Bolt, has quickly become the most popular choice. Key features include:

  • Cure Time: 0.5 seconds
  • Viscosity: Thicker than Halo Bond but thinner than Halo Hue and Halo Onyx
  • Ideal For: Experienced lash artists seeking speed

Halo Bolt is my personal go-to for daily applications due to its quick curing time and versatile viscosity. It's perfect for those who work swiftly and confidently, ensuring the adhesive doesn't dry before placement, which could otherwise lead to a weaker bond.

3. Halo Hue

Introducing color to our adhesive range, Halo Hue offers:

  • Cure Time: 1 second
  • Viscosity: Medium thickness
  • Color: Light purple tint

The subtle purple shade makes it easier to see where the glue is when you dip the lashes, enhancing precision. It's not a bright color but a gentle hue that many of our customers adore. Interestingly, I've found that some clients have the best retention with Halo Hue.

4. Halo Onyx

Our newest addition, Halo Onyx, brings familiarity with a twist:

  • Cure Time: 1 second
  • Viscosity: Medium thickness (same as Halo Hue)
  • Color: Black

Halo Onyx is perfect for those who prefer the traditional black adhesive but want the benefits of UV curing. It's the ideal blend of old and new, providing the comfort of a familiar color with advanced performance.

Try Different Adhesives to Find Your Perfect Match

We understand that every lash artist has unique preferences, and what works best can vary from one person to another—and even from one client to another. That's why we encourage you to try multiple adhesives to see which one aligns perfectly with your lashing style and meets your clients' needs.

  • Experiment with Cure Times: If you're new to UV lashing, starting with Halo Bond's slower cure time can help you get comfortable before moving on to faster options like Halo Bolt. Remember, a slower cure time gives you a bit more flexibility to position the lash before curing.
  • Test Different Viscosities: The thickness of the glue affects application and retention. By trying adhesives with varying viscosities, you can find the consistency that works best for your technique.
  • Explore Color Options: Using colored adhesives like Halo Hue or Halo Onyx can enhance visibility during application and might improve precision and retention.

Many of our customers have discovered that mixing and matching adhesives based on specific situations yields the best results. Don't hesitate to experiment—you might find a new favorite that elevates your work and delights your clients.

Making Your Choice

Selecting the right UV adhesive can enhance your lashing experience and improve client satisfaction. Consider the following when making your decision:

  • Skill Level:
    • Beginner: New to UV lashing? Start with Halo Bond for a slower cure time and thinner viscosity that offer more flexibility.
    • Experienced: Comfortable with quick applications? Halo Bolt provides a rapid cure time ideal for seasoned professionals.
  • Speed Needs: Need a fast cure to keep up with your pace? Halo Bolt is your best bet, but ensure you're quick enough to prevent the adhesive from drying before placement.
  • Visual Preference:
    • Enhanced Visibility: Want to see the glue more easily? Try Halo Hue with its light purple tint.
    • Traditional Feel: Prefer black adhesive? Go with Halo Onyx for a familiar look with UV benefits.
  • Application Technique: If you find that environmental factors affect your adhesive's viscosity, consider both the cure time and viscosity, choosing an adhesive that aligns with your working conditions and speed.

We're here to support you in finding the perfect adhesive for your needs. If you have any questions or need personalized recommendations, don't hesitate to reach out.

Happy lashing!
