Halo UV Glue Troubleshooting
Having issues with your Halo UV adhesive? Problems can be extremely frustrating, and we wanted to go over the most common issues we've seen to help you find the solution.

If it is a brand new bottle you received, it should be fairly obvious if there is something wrong with the glue. It will be: stringy, overly thick, or goopy. It is extremely rare for this to happen, but if it does, please let us know and we can get you a new bottle as soon as possible. This usually means the seal was broken either during transport or storage.
If it not stringy, overly thick or goopy, you can do a glue drop test and see if the glue cures under your UV light in 3-5 seconds. If it fully cures, than that means your glue is working as expected.
If the UV adhesive is curing under the UV Light with the glue dot test, that means it is working as intended. And it means the retention issues you are experiencing are caused by something else.
There can be several things that can cause retention issues. You will want to try to cancel out as many possibilities to narrow down what might be the cause. In all cases though, you will want to make sure you are shaking the bottle vigorously for 1-2 minutes before us to ensure proper mixing.
1. Does the UV glue cure under your UV light? Put a dot of UV glue on a piece of tape and see if it is cured under the UV light in 3-5 seconds. If it is, than UV Glue is working like it should.
2. Are you doing a lash wash bath before application? Oils or unclean lashes can prevent a strong bond, which is why I always do a lash bath for every client before application.
3. Are the lashes that are coming off, are they attached to a natural lash? If most of them are, than this means your client(s) are going through a shedding period. I've seen cases where extra shedding from stress, hormones, etc. required full sets during the normal fills! Also changes in season can cause extra shedding.
4. Are you curing the UV glue long enough to form a strong bond? With some lights, over time, the power of your light can cause issues... even if it passes the glue dot test. We've heard of people having retention issues after a while, and when they switched lights the problem went away. With the Halo UV lights, we haven't seen this issue with our lights... but we have heard of other companies UV lights do this. Sometimes curing the glue for longer under your light can prevent this issue. This is the most common issue we see, especially if you aren't switching UV glues and things were working great before, but everyone starts to have retention issues.
5. Application Issues: If you are using too much or too little glue, that can cause retention issues. The type of lashes you use (premade fans, promade fans or making your own fans) can also require different techniques to form a strong bond with the nature lash. Experience and understanding the different techniques is the best way to figure out what works best for you.
Once a Halo UV glue is opened, it should last ~60-90 days in most cases. Once it starts to go bad, you will notice it gets stringy, overly thick, or goopy.
If you have any doubts, you can always do a glue drop test and see if the glue cures under your UV light in 3-5 seconds. If it fully cures, than that means your glue is working as expected.
The best way to test your light is to do the glue dot test on a piece of tape and see if it cures in 3-5 seconds under the light.
If it seems slow to cure the UV adhesive there are usually two main issues that can happen: 1) an issue with your foot pedal (foot pedal issues are the most common problem) or 2) the lightbulb in your light is going out.
If the light flickers when you press the pedal, that usually means the wires are not making a solid connection in the foot pedal, and you probably need a new foot pedal. If the light turns on but seems to not cure as quickly as before, try pressing on the pedal harder. If that seems to help things, that also indicates an issue with your foot pedal.
Depending on the manufacturer of your light, we have heard stories of some lights having major issues even after a couple of months.
At least with our Halo UV lights, we have occasionally seen some of our foot pedal wires getting loose in the pedal over time. We solved that problem with our new premium foot pedal. If you are having foot pedal issues and are under our 1-year warranty, please reach out to us and we can replace your pedal free of charge.
We have heard stories of some lights from other companies seeming like there wasn't an issue (light turns on and appears to cure the adhesive), but they started to have retention problems. Switching to a new light in some of those cases solved it. So keep this in mind if you are having retention problems!
Each of our Halo UV glues are a bit different. Mainly from the dry time and the viscosity (thickness). We wrote a blog post that goes through the differences of our UV glues.
Our fastest drying Halo UV glue (Halo Bolt) requires faster application once dipping the lash into the glue to curing it under the light to form the strongest bond. Our other UV glues don't dry as fast and so you have more time, but they have a different thickness.
Each glue requires a bit of a learning curve in how it best works for you, and some people have preferences on which glue they like the most (whether it is the color or the thickness of the glue). You might find you get a better bond with Halo Hue versus Halo Bond. The only way to know is to test the different glues.
We also have noticed that retention can also be greatly affected by application, and whether or not the lashes are washed before application.
One interesting thing we noticed is that some clients have better retention with one glue over the other! It is really about testing different glues and figuring out which one works the best for you.
If you are going to try a new UV Glue, we recommend you have a backup of your existing glue just in case the new one doesn't work for you. You don't want to try a new glue, have major retention issues, and not have a backup if you need it.
If you receive a new Halo UV adhesive and it is stringy, overly thick, or goopy right away after opening, than please let us know at info@evlolash.com and we will get you a new bottle asap (this happens rarely). If you have any questions about the bottle going bad, do the glue dot test to see if it cures under the light.
There are many factors that can cause retention issues, and unfortunately we cannot offer refunds or bottle replacements in these cases if the adhesive has been opened.
Each UV adhesive will have different retention for each lash artist based on the UV light they are using, their application methods and preferences. If you try a UV Adhesive and it doesn't work for you, try a different one.
We buy our UV Adhesives in small batches. This means you are always getting a fresh bottle of UV adhesive. We've never had a "bad batch", and if we did, we would have many customers having issues with the adhesive. Any rare issues that do happen are rare and one off situations.
When you depend on your UV light and UV glue to apply lashes, you need to make sure you always have an extra bottle on hand, just in case something happens with the first one.
Maybe a bottle starts to get goopy before you anticipate, or you run through it faster than you did last time. Having an extra bottle gives you a backup option just in case!
