Do UV Lash Artists Still Need Traditional Adhesives?

When you begin working with UV lash adhesives, it might feel like you can leave traditional eyelash extension glue behind. After all, UV adhesives offer significant benefits, like longer retention and improved resistance to oils and water. But does that mean you should ditch traditional adhesives entirely? Not necessarily. Failing to keep traditional glue on hand could put you in tricky situations down the road.

Here are three reasons why you should always have traditional adhesive available as a backup:

1. Some Clients May Prefer to Avoid UV Exposure

While the UV exposure from LED lights during a lash session is minimal—about the equivalent of 60 seconds in the sun for a full set—some clients may still be uncomfortable with it. Even though our UV LED lights are low power, there are individuals who simply prefer to avoid UV exposure altogether.

Additionally, some clients may be perfectly happy with the results they’ve been getting from traditional adhesives and might be resistant to switching. In these cases, having traditional glue as an option shows that you respect their preferences.

2. Sensitivity to UV Light or Medication Side Effects

Certain medications and skin conditions can increase sensitivity to UV light. For example, some prescription drugs may cause photosensitivity, making UV exposure problematic for your clients. Or, a client who recently had a facial treatment may have skin that’s temporarily more sensitive to light, making UV adhesive less ideal for them at the moment.

In such cases, offering traditional adhesive provides a safer alternative. If a client has concerns about their sensitivity to UV light, it’s always a good idea for them to consult their healthcare provider before proceeding with a UV adhesive treatment.

3. Potential Technical Issues with Your LED Light

Technology is great—until it malfunctions. If your LED light malfunctions or your foot pedal stops responding, it could disrupt an appointment. Even though these issues are rare, being unprepared for them could leave you scrambling to finish a set. Whether it’s a power issue, a damaged wire, or a burnt-out light bulb, having traditional adhesive as a backup ensures you can continue working while resolving the technical issue.

Having backup traditional adhesive allows you to maintain client satisfaction and keep appointments on track, even if your equipment lets you down unexpectedly.

Personally I always have a bottle of Stuck on You Lash Adhesive on hand.
